Adding a New Record Suggestion or Inclusion Policy Link

Formatting the "Suggest New Record" Link

CIOC does not by default provide a link for the public (or staff who cannot add new records themselves) to suggest a new record for the database. If you want to provide this link, you must create it yourself somewhere in your database, such as the header or footer of each page, or the main menu. You could also provide this link in a page message, from your regular website - anywhere that you would like.

For each View, the New Record Suggestion page is located at /feedback.asp for Community information and /volunteer/feedback.asp for Volunteer. This link will always go to the New Record Suggestion Page for the default View and Language for the current URL/User. If you wish to direct to a specific View or Language, you can add additional parameters. If you have a special URL for each of your public Views, directing to a specific View should not be necessary.

Community Information "Suggestion" Link Examples:

/feedback.asp go to the default View and language
/feedback.asp?Ln=fr-CA go to the current default View, French language if available
/feedback.asp?UseCICVw=20 switch to View #20 if accessible to this User
/feedback.asp?Ln=fr-CA&UseCICVw=20 switch to View #20 if accessible to this User, and use the French language if available
https://mysite.cioc.ca/feedback.asp Linking from an external site (not your CIOC database) needs to include the full URL, including the protocol.

Volunteer Opportunity "Suggestion" Link Examples:

/volunteer/feedback.asp go to the default View and language
/volunteer/feedback.asp?Ln=fr-CA go to the current default View, French language if available
/volunteer/feedback.asp?UseVOLVw=20 switch to View #20 if accessible to this User
/volunteer/feedback.asp?Ln=fr-CA&UseCICVw=20 switch to View #20 if accessible to this User, and use the French language if available
https://mysite.cioc.ca/volunteer/feedback.asp Linking from an external site (not your CIOC database) needs to include the full URL, including the protocol.

Making an Inclusion Policy Link

The "Suggest a New Record Page" automatically includes a link to the Record Inclusion Policy associated with the current View. It is very important to ensure that an up-to-date inclusion policy is included with all public Views of the database, so that the public can have a clear understanding of what types of records are appropriate to include in the dataset that makes up the given View. Inclusion Policies are managed through the Setup area of the software and can be reused in multiple Views and modules of the software. Assign an Inclusion Policy to your View through the View setup area.

You can turn any of the above "Suggest New Record" links into an Inclusion Policy link by substituting inclusion.asp for feedback.asp. Because the inclusion policy is supposed to open in a pop-up window, it does not have a menu or any links back to the site. From within CIOC, you can use the pop-up link javascript:openWin('inclusion.asp','incPolicy'). This JavaScript pop-up link will not work on external websites.
